Reflecting God’s Mercy in an Unmerciful World

Jesus didn’t pull any punches when He told the story of the unforgiving servant. Yet nearly every Christian acts out the story on a regular basis. We have received the most amazing pardon imaginable, and we turn around and refuse to forgive others. Ridiculous!

A recent magazine article entitled “The Church’s Secret Shame,” was about Christians having abortions. Statistics reveal that eighteen percent of those who have abortions in the United States are evangelicals. Eighteen percent?! That’s nearly one in five! Why would so many people who identify themselves as pro-life murder their unborn babies?

Molly, a crisis pregnancy counselor, puts it bluntly, “Christians abort because they are Christians. It is easier to hide the abortion than the pregnancy. It’s the mentality that asks, ‘Who would you rather face, Jesus as a judge or your Christian peers?’”

What a sad commentary on the Church. We who are called to be the dispensers of God’s grace quite regularly are anything but that.
