“Simply put, we were made to worship. It’s who we are. It’s what we do. Becoming A True Worshiper opens the door to understanding what lasting worship is all about...a powerful and practical resource charting the way as we become all we were created to be.”
Louie Giglio, Passion Conferences, author The Air I Breathe and Worship as a Way of Life.
“Tom Kraeuter addresses one of the major issues confronting the worship renewal movement—narcissism. He calls us to take our focus off of self and return it to God. For God’s sake and for the sake of the church’s witness in a world oriented around me-myself-and-I, we must listen, repent, and restore the worship of God Almighty.”
Dr. Robert Webber
“Becoming a True Worshiper is a well executed must-read… supported with a balanced draw from personal experience, scripture and classic writers and theologians...sure to challenge, inspire and inform those desiring to be true worshipers. I’d like to get this book into the hands of everyone in my church!”
Curt Coffield, worship leader Shoreline Community Church, Monterey, California and member of Integrity Music’s PK7, Promise Keepers’ worship band.
“This book is a most refreshing revisiting of the truth of what worship really is… Tom opens up the concept and leads us into a fuller understanding.”
David Hadden, worship leader, songwriter, and director of the School of Worship in Coventry, United Kingdom.
“Finally! An easy-to-read, humorous, Biblical book on practical foundations for living a life of worship. This is not one of those books that will sit on your shelf…It’s a page-turner an eye-opener and a heart-changer. I’ll be recommending it at all my conferences.”
Arlen Salte, international worship leader and teacher, founder of Break Forth Canada
Not long ago a friend asked me a question: “Are you more interested in leading people in worship or in developing people into becoming worshipers?” I had never really considered this question before. As soon as the question was asked, though, I knew the “correct” answer.
As a worship leader, I have always been very interested in leading people in worship. However, it has become quite obvious to me that the higher priority is to develop people into being worshipers. That’s my goal in writing this book: to help you become a true worshiper of God.
To that end we will first look at worship from a biblical perspective rather than from a cultural point of view, or even a traditional one. After that foundation has been laid, we will consider other practical steps on the road to becoming a true worshiper of God. I look forward to taking this journey with you.
As we begin, I would like to ask you a favor. Open your mind to what God has for you. He will transform you by renewing your mind as you look at the principles from His Word about worship. Set aside your preconceived ideas about worship, and let’s explore together from a biblical perspective what it means to be a true worshiper of God.
Though our thinking is often jolted and jarred whenever we truly delve into Scripture, I think you will find the final result worth the effort. In a magazine article, author Tricia McCary Rhodes said, “Two things ring true for me as I look over the landscape of my life as a worshiper: that it has cost far more than I ever dreamed, and that I have gained something far greater than I ever imagined.”1 I would definitely echo her statement. Truly being a worshiper is costly in time and commitment, but the final result is worth far more than the effort. Always.
My prayer is that this book will truly help us to become the worshipers that the Lord wants us to be. (112 pages)
